Finalist – Nature's Pearls – It’s not often you get the opportunity to closely observe a pearl-spotted owlet, one of the smallest owls in Southern Africa. I noticed its nesting hole in a camelthorn tree while I was parked at a waterhole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Unexpectedly, the owlet flew in and I waited patiently for it to reappear. It didn’t, so I returned the next day and waited, using my time to test out various camera settings. When it finally showed its cute face, I was ready to capture the moment.
