Highly Commended – Stare Down – This photo was taken in the Mabamba swamps in Uganda. After spending four months hitchhiking through Africa, I had one last goal, to see and photograph a shoebill. The only problem was I was completely broke. Luckily, a kind shebeen owner allowed me to camp in his back garden. With a bit of negotiation, I was able to go out on a local boat in search of these magnificent, prehistoric looking birds.
