Finalist – Jacana Toes – This photo of an African jacana foraging in the Chobe River in Botswana’s Chobe National Park was taken from a specially designed photography boat. The bird’s ability to walk on lily pads without sinking into the water earned it the nickname lily-trotter. It uses its long toes to wade from leaf to leaf. The female mates, and as soon as she has laid her eggs she moves on to a new male, leaving ‘dad’ to raise the chicks.
