High water levels on the Zambezi river have forced all abseiling adventures below Victoria Falls to be suspended for the season.
The Zambezi river flows over the falls and into Batoka Gorge, where Abseil Victoria Falls has been running abseiling adventures since last year.
They say they will reopen once the waters have dropped.
The river’s levels do usually rise at this time of year, tending to rise from April to July, depending on the year’s rainfall.
Tourists would usually be able to abseil up to 100m down into the gorge. Once at the water’s edge they would have a view of the falls close to where they crash into the gorge.
The entire adventure usually lasts a little over an hour, depending on how much time guests spend enjoying the views from the bottom. No previous abseiling experience is needed.
An extra is to paddle a raft to the bottom of the falls and swim underneath its spray.

The high waters usually also cause the closure of Devil’s Pool at this time of year. It is usually open from August to January.
