It’s not unusual to see people unpacking and repacking bags at an airport, shifting good into their hand luggage or ditching items completely, however, there are those that go the extra mile to try and avoid paying excess baggage fees.
Travel journalist Rebecca Andrews decided to pretend to be pregnant and stuff extra clothes and a laptop charger that she couldn’t fit in her bag under her shirt, as a fake pregnancy bump. She was travelling on a domestic Jetstar flight in Australia.
‘I have a small frame and decided to pretend to be preggo was the most believable route to a successful hack,’ she told CNN Travel.
Unfortunately for her she couldn’t fit her laptop in her bag either and hid that behind her back. However, she got caught out when an air steward saw the computer sticking out of her jacket.
Andrews was fined $60 (about R900) for the overweight baggage, however, she doesn’t seem to regret her decision.
‘Was I embarrassed? Not at all. I felt like a bad ass. A hot pregnant badass,’ she said.
