The popular Two Oceans Aquarium in Cape Town closed its doors for the first time since 1996. This follows as a safety measure after the COVID-19 outbreak.
The aquarium currently has its reopening day as 14 April, but said it will review the closure in the coming weeks, according to CEO Michael Farquhar.
‘Many exhibits at the aquarium are interactive and involve touching. It is also difficult for people to maintain physical distance while viewing our exhibits,’ Farquhar said.
He also added that while the aquarium is closed to the public, the staff continue to care for the animals while taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves against the spread of the virus.
Tickets booked in advance may be kept until the facility reopens or refunded.
The onsite school holiday programmes offered by the Two Oceans Aquarium Education Foundation will now be made available online.
For those who still want to experience the ocean’s wonders, anyone can visit the aquarium’s website to view the live webcam on the I&J Ocean Exhibit here.
