A little girl died after falling 45m from the 11th floor of of Royal Caribbean’s Freedom of the Seas cruise ship yesterday 7 July. The 18-month-old was allegedly dangled out of the window by her grandfather when she slipped out of his arms.
The ship was docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico and it is believed that the little girl, from Indiana in the US, who was on holiday with her parents and grandparents, fell onto the concrete below the ship. She was rushed to hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
According to Fox News, police believe it was a tragic accident.
Elmer Román from the local Department of Public Security said, ‘Police have now launched an investigation and are trawling CCTV of the ship.
‘At this time (the Division of) Homicide is in place. It has not been possible to interview the family. It is a very strong scene, very sad and tragic.
‘At one point, one of her grandparents… in an act of games, exposes the girl to the void and [she] falls out of his hands.’
