Today marks the beginning of six weeks of annual maintenance for the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway. It will be closed until 18 August 2019, weather permitting.

The maintenance will involve the replacement of equipment such as cable car ropes and renovations.
Fear not, those with birthdays which fall in the maintenance period will not be hard done by. South Africans 18 years and older can claim their free birthday return trip in the week after the cableway reopens. Remember to take your South African ID with you.
For those hiking up the mountain during this time, be warned that the restrooms, eateries and shops at the summit by the cableway station will also be closed.
