Quinta da Pacheca Estate in Douro, Portugal is offering wine-lovers a unique vineyard experience. Visitors to the farm have the option to linger and book accommodation in a 270-square-foot wine-barrel-shaped room.
The wine barrels are located in the centre of the wine farm, surrounded by vines as old as 116 years. The suites are kitted out with modern creature comforts. From the private bathroom with a walk-in shower, a glorious large round bed, a private terrace overlooking the picturesque estate, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, and a skylight.
The estate does have a hotel, but the wine barrels are an extra-special way to experience the essence of one of the world’s most popular wine regions. In March, a double room, or superior barrel, can cost between €178 (R2,861) and €193 (R3,102) for one night, where the hotel’s double superior rooms can cost between €113 (R1,816) and €142 (R2,282) per night.
The wine farm invites visitors to enjoy a traditional Portuguese meal at the estate’s restaurant, visit one of 15 wine-making facilities in the Pereira and do Céu Gonçalves’ areas, or do a wine-tasting. The farm produces white, red and rosé wine as well as port wine, Moscatel and olive oil.
