Officials in Seychelles have warned tourists to avoid the water of a beach in Amitie, Praslin following a shark attack that occurred over the weekend. A French woman was attacked and badly injured while swimming.
According to Newsweek, the woman sustained serious injuries to her arm and was airlifted to hospital. According to the Seychelles News Agency, the French ambassador Dominique Mas had said that while she had undergone surgery her life was not in danger.
The Seychelles Maritime Safety Administration (SMSA) has sectioned off the area of the attack. According to Newsweek the shark is being examined by officials but the species of shark is still unknown.
While shark attacks are rare in the Seychelles, authorities believe that the cool waters, which are unusually cold for this time of year, may have been what attracted the shark.
