A new wooden photo frame was installed at Sabie’s 68m Lone Creek Falls in Mpumalanga and was officially opened on Wednesday 19 February as part of a tourism initiative by the Sabie Local Tourism Organisation (LTO), under the auspices of the Sabie Chamber of Commerce & Tourism.
The installation of the frame was authorised by the South African Forestry Company (Safcol) and is designed to be interactive, with a number of blocks with suspended on a column, each of which can be turned to display a different message. Messages such as ‘She said yes’ and ‘We love Sabie Panorama Route’ can be included in photos, which are bound to fill tourists’ Instagram feeds.
The wooden frame is hidden from the mains paths and is tucked away close on one side of the falls. Safcol warns that ‘the footpath can be slippery when wet and it is not wheelchair friendly’.
Although it’s meant to encourage tourism to the area, the man-made structure could be considered an eyesore by some.
