An SAA flight was forced to make an emergency landing in PE as fumes entered into the cabin. Two crew members were affected by the fumes and oxygen was administered according to the HeraldLIVE.
The plane had over 100 passengers onboard and was en route to PE from Johannesburg. Just after 12 pm, a ‘paint smell’ filled the cabin.
Speaking to HeraldLIVE SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali said: ‘A paint smell was reported in the cabin just before the plane was due to land. Two cabin crew members were affected by the smell and oxygen was administered. The operating crew requested priority routing and landing. The aircraft landed safely and had 80% passenger occupancy.’
Emergency services were on the scene to attend to the plane. Airports Company SA spokesperson Senzeni Ndebele also spoke to HeraldLIVE and said that the flight landed safely and that those on board were safe.
‘The airline apologises for any possible distress that the incident may have caused to its passengers,’ said Tlali.
Tlali ensured that a thorough inspection of the plane would take place and that an investigation into the matter will be launched.
