The wait is over, United Airlines will offer new direct flights between Cape Town and New York from 15 December and tickets are now on sale.
The cheapest tickets for a return flight will be $865 (about R13,200), if you’re willing to fly on New Year’s Day. While other economy return flights vary from $872 – $1,316 (about R12600 – R19,000 ) according to the US airline’s website.

Operated on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner that can carry 252 passengers (48 seats in business class and 204 in economy), the non-stop service will run three times per week and will reduce travel time from Cape Town by at least four hours.
‘Our new service between New York and Cape Town will enable our business and leisure customers to choose a more convenient and seamless way to travel between the United States and South Africa,’ said Jake Cefolia, United’s senior vice president of Worldwide Sales, in a press statement.
