Grab an eland burger and learn about the San or take part in the activities on offer, at this unique destination on the Cape’s West Coast, 70km from Cape Town.
The !Khwa ttu San Culture and Education Centre is an exciting and uplifting space that provides mentorship and training for young San men and women, in a bid to build life skills and provide work exposure. The aim of the centre is to empower the San and giving them a space within which to share their heritage, in a manner that suits them and engages with visitors, all the while working towards sustainability.

!Khwa ttu has a lot to offer visitors: there are mountain biking trails (for beginners and experienced riders), walking trails and a herbal tea tasting accompanied by a San language session. There are also San guided tours, a restaurant, shop, gallery and accommodation. This month !Khwa ttu is launching a Heritage Centre (on Heritage Day, 24 September) a ‘remarkable building that brings the wisdom of this ancient people together with modern technology’.

The centre is still dependent on donor funding, but is working towards self-sufficeincy with its revenue-generating offerings, which include accommodation in cottages or luxury tented camps, as well as the rustic farmhouse restaurant, with views across the fynbos-covered land and the ocean in the distance.
Special events are also hosted at the centre, the upcoming !Khwa ttu Heritage Festival (Heritage Day weekend, 22-24 September) is next on the cards. Guests are invited to join the San in traditional dancing, singing, tracking, tractor rides and storytelling around the fire. There will also be a braai, bar and food bazaar available all day.
