All accommodation across the country are being asked to draw up a list with details of guests from identified high-risk countries, as part of the governments extended COVID-19 containment plan.
While normal registries are in place in line with standard legal requirements, these require extended details and monitoring of guests.
Those with guests from South Korea, Italy, Spain, Iran, Germany, the United States of America, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, France and China have been asked to compile lists of those in their establishments, including their personal details, entry date into South Africa and places visited.
In the initial statement released by Tourism Business Council of South Africa CEO, Tshifhiwa Tshivhengwa, it was explained that accommodation had been asked to ensure no guests check in or out of their establishment.
This has since been clarified, with SA Tourism CEO Sisa Ntshona explaining that guests are allowed to check-out but accommodations must try to ensure they only go to the airport to leave the country and keep a record of that movement.
In addition, accommodation is asked not to turn away guests who still want to check in but rather should be checked-in and documented.
SA Tourism gave establishments a temporary link where they can upload their guest lists from the last 14 days, with a permanent link to follow.
