The Badaling section of the Great Wall of China has partially reopened to visitors on Tuesday 24 March after being closed for two months due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
China has begun easing restrictions as cases of COVID-19 are steadily decreasing.
In the past, this popular section of the Great Wall would see up to 60,000 visitors on average per day. Authorities, however, are restricting the daily visitor capacity to just under 20,000. On Tuesday only 1,000 visitors were recorded according to ABC News.
China announced on Tuesday 24 March that a lockdown would be lifted on more than 50 million people in central Hubei province. This is where the first case of coronavirus emerged last year. Reopening this section is a signal of hope, as many countries are currently faced with much uncertainty while dealing with the coronavirus pandemic. By 8 April, travel restrictions on Wuhan will be lifted, according to Al Jazeera.
