Summer has barely made an exit and winter is already rearing her head. According to Snow Report, South Africa’s first snowfall of 2019 is expected over the Drakensberg Mountain range on Friday afternoon.
Approximately 10cm of snow is predicted on the high peaks across much of the northern, central and southern Drakensberg.
‘We have seen a fair amount of volatility in the data though, with up to 23cm still being indicated in the early update today but through the day we saw a reduction to a maximum of 18cm. At this point we’re not expecting low-level snow anywhere,’ Snow Report said.
Their website is currently under maintenance, however, webcams showing highlying areas in South Africa and Lesotho can still be viewed here.
Temperatures will dip below freezing on Friday, bringing rain, snow and icy-cold weather. On Saturday, temperatures dip further to -2°C. If you were planning a weekend getaway to the Drakensberg Mountain range, we suggest you pack warm.
