China’s air pollution decreases after coronavirus
One good, albeit unexpected, result of the coronavirus is that China’s air pollution levels are on a steady decline. This is thanks to the safety measures implemented across the country meant to stop the virus from spreading.
Residents’ daily movements are being restricted and many recreational and tourist activities have been halted in an attempt to stop the further spreading of the disease. Many factories have shut down operations and transport services have been suspended, which are the biggest culprits of air pollution. All these safety measures have contributed to a drop in carbon dioxide levels as shown in satellite images taken by NASA.
This comes as a welcome relief during a dark time for China. The total death toll due to the virus has exceeded 3,000.
