Banks added as collection points for SA passports, IDs

Posted on 12 February 2020

The new smart ID cards rolled out by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in 2013 provided a modern alternative to the classic green book. Several South African banks across the country also serve as pick up points for new IDs and passports in addition to the DHA.

Now, the DHA has added several new branches at different banks where South Africans can collect new passports and smart IDs. Users will need to provide biometric authentication to receive their documents. The service will become operational over the next few months at the following branches:

ABSA

Gauteng:

Rosebank Mall, Menlyn Maine, Key West, Fourways Mall, Waterfall Mall, Woodlands and Randburg

Western Cape:

Claremont, Stellenbosch

KwaZulu-Natal:

Pinetown

FNB

Points of Presence CEO Lee-Anne van Zyl said that the bank continues to work with the Department of Home Affairs to explore making the service available in all major provincial hubs across South Africa, with additional sites in Kwa-Zulu Natal and Gauteng as priority, according to MyBroadband.

Van Zyl added that the names of the additional branches would be announced in due course.

Nedbank

Western Cape:

St. George’s Mall

Gauteng:

Rustenburg Square

KwaZulu-Natal:

Durban North

Northern Cape:

North Cape Mall

Standard Bank

KwaZulu-Natal:

Kingsmead

North West:

Jubilee Mall

The other three branches – in Port Elizabeth, Kathu, and Promenade Mall in Cape Town – are expected to open by the end of March 2020.

Here is a list of the current branches where residents can collect their passports and IDs:
