The highly anticipated Arctic Bath hotel in northern Sweden opened on 15 January 2020, according to its Instagram page. This circular hotel is situated on the Lule River, where it floats in summer and is fixed on the frozen waterway in winter. It reportedly offers guests incredible, panoramic views of the Northern Lights.
The hotel’s design is chic and intimate with only six cabins on the water and six on land. The circular structure that has caught the attention of people across the world is the hotel’s spa. Resembling a bird’s nest, this tranquil space is equipped with four saunas, one treatment room, a hot bath and a cold outdoor bath. At the centre of the circular structure is a plunge pool tha’s kept at 3°C. Guests can opt to suntan around in the centre area or jump into the near-freezing water while watching the aurora borealis dance overhead.
The double-room cabins come with a double bed (160 cm), a bathroom with shower, air-conditioning, minibar, spa bar, Wi-Fi, heated floors and a heater in the form of a pellet stove, according to Arctic Bath’s website. Each room has a wooden deck for sunbathing, meditating or to observe the northern lights from. The floating cabins were designed by architects Bertil Harström and Johan Kauppi.
