A new multi-billion rand development in KwaZulu-Natal will be home to South Africa’s first indoor snow park, giving locals the opportunity to frolic in a winter playground.
The Oceans Mall in Umhlanga is a new mixed-used development currently underway and, as reports by the North Coast courier explain, the construction of a mall in the epicentre will begin in February.
The mall will cover an area of 36,000 square metres.
The project will take 18 months to be completed, creating a new shopping hub in Durban.
The mall will offer locals a luxurious shopping experience with over 100 retail outlets – but that’s not the most exciting addition to the seaside area. Oceans Mall will also house Africa’s first snow park, where visitors can escape the local heat for a contrasting winter experience.
Developer Vivian Reddy told the North Coast courier that the mall is “unique because of SA’s first snow park and an ice bar. Visitors will be able to frolic in the snow, quench their thirst and satisfy their hunger pangs in plush restaurants and then walk across the street and dive into the ocean and enjoy the pristine Umhlanga promenade and beach,” he said.
After spending the day playing in the snow, visitors to the mall can head to Durban’s first Hard Rock Café, Donatellas or Nikos branches. A range of exclusive brands will be retailing at the mall, creating a ‘platinum walk’ on which the only stores of their kind in the province are situated.
Further details about the snow park are yet to be released.
