This is only the second year I’ve taken part in Rally to Read, but if these two rallies are anything to go by, each year promises more of an experience than the last.
The Rally is an annual corporate social responsibility initiative that donates and delivers books and teaching aids to the country’s most underdeveloped schools. Despite offering a world-class literacy development programme to teachers over three years the rally can count its successes by the number of return sponsors it sees each year.
Rally to Read differs from other such programmes because it allows sponsors and their children to become personally involved. By loading vehicles, driving across rough terrain, through South Africa’s remotest areas, participants become truly engaged in the good work that is being done and experience firsthand the difference they are able to make. Here are some photographs from one of this year’s rallies in KwaZulu-Natal.
