In 2016, three creative South Africans embarked on an adventure in search of a bustling food scene, photogenic landscapes and a welcoming local culture.
They claim to have found it, too, in the humble country of Vietnam. This year they released a short film chronicling their journey and discoveries, titled In Foreign Transit – Vietnam.

In Foreign Transit is just under 12 minutes long, and was filmed and edited by Dewald Brand, a filmmaker who travelled to Southeast Asia with photographer Max Mogale and food blogger at FoodJams Jade de Waal.
Over three weeks, the trio travelled to the bustling capital of Hanoi, Phan Rang, Cát Bà Island, and Sapa’s lush and rolling rice fields, and rode down rivers through mountain caves in Trang An. In these places, they managed to capture incredible footage while sampling local street cuisine and coconut and fresh egg yolk coffee, exploring salt plains and discovering the ancient technique of making tofu.
