Nick and Voirrey Coole were travelling to New York from the Isle of Man airport when security staff discovered that the couple’s cat, Candy, was a stowaway in their luggage.
‘It must have looked quite unusual on the scanner. At the point at which they scanned it, they were all scratching heads and they were all looking at each other,’ said Nick in an interview with the BBC.
‘They were looking at us so bizarrely,’ sid Voirrey added.
Candy had apparently curled up in one of their hand luggage.
Once airport security realised that it was a genuine mistake they were ‘fantastic’ the couple said.
The airport security team helped the couple to get Candy to some friends who took her home and the pair continued on their journey to celebrate Nick’s 40th birthday in the Big Apple.
‘The second they realised it was a genuine mistake, and we had actually brought our cat through airport security, at that point, they just laughed and they were fantastic,’ said Nick.
