De Hoop beach lodge closed due to flooding

Natural Selection’s Lekkerwater Beach Lodge at De Hoop, in the Western Cape’s De Hoop Nature Reserve, is temporarily closed due to flooding. Rainfall in the area caused severe flooding at the lodge recently.

Collin Bell, co-founder of Natural Selection and Developer of the Lekkerwater Beach Lodge, confirmed to Tourism Update that about 100ml of rain fell over 20-30 minutes in the area.

He continued to say that while the lodge was flooded, damage to the structure and furniture was not severe. To clean up and assess the property, the lodge will close for four weeks until 1 November. Arrangements have been made for guests who have booked at the lodge over this period.

Lekkerwater Beach Lodge boasts excellent sea views and is famous for its marine activity. In July to November, Southern Right whales can be spotted swimming by on their way from Antarctica and sizeable pods of dolphins frequently frolic in the waters.
