Surfers learn to fly and pilots learn to surf
In this video produced by British Airways to mark the commencement of its new direct flights between the UK and Durban from 29 October, you get to see surfers learning to fly and pilots learning to surf.
Two talented young Durban surfers, S’nenhlanhla “Sne” Makhubu and Sihle Mbuto teach two British Airways pilots, Senior First Officer Andrew Fonseca and First Officer Thomas Reynolds to surf. All four then travelled to the UK, where the pilots taught the surfers to fly the simulators for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner – the aircraft which will serve the new route.
The initiative was run in conjunction with Surfers Not Street Children, the British Airways-supported organization which empowers street children and children at risk through surfing and mentorship and gives them an opportunity to transform their lives.
