Garret and Jessica Gee, the parents to Dorothy, Manilla, and Calihan, decided to sell everything and travel the world with their young children in 2015. They started an Instagram and a YouTube channel called The Bucket List Family that documents their travels.
The family spent some time in South Africa in 2017, one of 65 countries that they visited, before recently settling into a bungalow on the beach in Hawaii. It’s their home base from where they continue to explore.
On Monday, 25 November, the adventurous family posted their latest video which shows a trip they took to Mexico to do some shark cage diving. What makes the video unusual is that seven-year-old Dorothy and five-year-old Manilla got in on the action too. (There are two separate scenes of the kids diving with the great white – if you’re impatient, skip to the 6-minute mark to see the first).
Witness as the couple introduce their children to the wonder of these apex predators as they instill in them a desire to love and protect the ocean and all its creatures. Much like taking children on a game drive to experience nature in the bush, its a wonder that not many parents have done the same.
