Put Foot Rally day seven: Livingstone

Day 7: 28 June

Zambia – Livingstone, Bushfront Campsite

We left the campsite in Chobe around 12h00 and went on a hunt for a toasted sandwich. What we found at Coffee and Curry, on Main Road in Kasane, was not quite a toasted sandwich but an interesting interpretation of a chicken mayo toastie. We ate it nonetheless,  we were ravenous.

Our next obstacle was the Kazungula border. It’s a ferry crossing from Botswana into Zambia – it was certainly the most interesting border crossing I’ve ever done in Africa. We made it through in just under two hours. It was busy, it was hot, it was chaotic. There were hundreds of trucks trying to cross the border, people trying to sell curios and a whole lot of running from one building to another building, back to the other building, and then back to the first building again.

We finally got through and headed straight for our accommodation in Livingstone where we did a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. We drove into the Zambezi Waterfront and left on the cruise immediately. We cruised around one of the island passing crocs and hippos along the way and sipped on our gin and tonics while the sun set over the mighty Zambezi.

I always wonder what David Livingstone had thought when he first laid eyes on “˜the smoke that thunders’ emerging from the horizon. I stand in awe of it every time I see it. It’s a bucket list priority.

If you want to experience Victoria Falls the way we did, enter our Bobs for Good Foundation competition and you could win a three-night stay at the Zambezi Waterfront in Livingstone.

Album of the day: Cake (I had no say in this one)
