Kayaking in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand
Fiordland is a huge national park in the South West corner of South Island, New Zealand. Milford Sound is the most popular place in the park and is completely overrun with tourists. A better option is to visit Doubtful Sound, just to the south of Milford Sound.
To get there one needs to catch a ferry across Lake Manapouri and then travel by road lead up and over a steep pass, down to Doubtful Sound. There are only a few tourist boats there and it’s best stay overnight. There is a luxury boat that you can stay on, but its far nicer to do a kayaking trip and camp in the forest. The overnight kayaking trips are run by Fiordland Wilderness Experience.
