The December holidays are around the corner and fortunately for thrill-seekers, South Africa has an abundance of extreme activities to get your heart rate up. Here are our some of favourites:
1. Tandem sky diving
Keen to get high? Get a bird’s eye view and jump out of an aeroplane. You can do this almost anywhere in the country.

2. Canyoning
This activity includes hiking to the top of a canyon and then getting down again, either by abseiling or just jumping into the water!
Skill required: Reasonable fitness. Mountaineering skills are beneficial, but not necessary.

3. Sandboarding
Sandboarding offers a softer landing than many other adventure activities and is great fun too.

4. Bungee jumping
Face your fears and take the leap. You’ll either be hooked or proud of yourself for ticking it off your bucket list.

5. Shark cage diving
If you’re interested in meeting our finned friends, consider this one. You don’t need to be a certified diver.

6. Crocodile cage diving
A little less known but no less spine-chilling. Freshwater predators are just as fascinating.

Cost: R250 for adults, R180 for children
7. Dune thrashing
You don’t have to go to the Namib desert to play with big 4×4’s in the sand.
