I may be leaving Vic Falls today to go to Imbabala Safari Lodge further upriver, but I came across a great place from which to plan your Vic Falls stay.
Just off the main street is Backpackers Bazaar, a one-stop booking shop run by Kelly Varley, Joy Moyo and Tsitsi Muposiwa. Here you can see everything on offer in town, from activities to accommodation, from restaurants to music…and you can book it all. Because they are independent, you will get good advice as to which companies to book with. Especially when it comes to ethical things like elephant rides and lion walks…the Backpackers Bazaar team are very careful to refer customers to the ethical operators.
Oh, and if you’re looking for great value accommodation in the falls, Kelly will send you to Shoestrings Backpackers close by. It’s owned by Kelly’s parents Leon and Mags, and is the nicest budget spot in town…and very central.
By the way, if you want do a walking safari, Kelly’s dad Leon is apparently among the best guides in Zimbabwe. I haven’t met him, or done any of his walks, but judging from Kelly’s enthusiasm, and Leon’s website, I’m going to try and do one!
If you need help planning your holiday in Vic Falls, drop Kelly, Joy and Tsitsi a line on +263-13-45828 or email [email protected].
