This quiet and secluded house on a river in Dana Bay in the Western Cape is suitable for up to eight guests looking for a peaceful weekend. Although the accommodation is fairly basic, it doesn’t fall short on comfort and amenities, with DStv, equipped kitchen and cosy fireplace. There are three standard rooms that lead into the open lounge and dining area and the master bedroom is en suite. The communal area, including the kitchen, is light and airy, thanks to large windows (with no curtains). The extensive wooden deck has a view of the river below as well as the dunes and ocean beyond that. It’s a great sundowner spot or you can simply chill on one of the loungers and enjoy the silence.
It’s fully equipped for self-catering and there’s a braai and bonfire deck. There are very few restaurants in the area, but Mossel Bay is a short drive away and has a wide selection of eateries.
Dana Bay is a conservancy so buck, steenbuck, mongoose and Cape Francolins roam freely. A wooden walkway leads to a beautiful beach and there’s a river for canoeing in front of the house.
Children are welcome, but young kids need to be watched on the balcony.
River Shack
