How to Beat the Monday Blues

Posted by Tamlin Wightman on 22 January 2009

If you can get off work and get Roofus and the kids a sitter, I truly advise a getaway during the week, rather than over the weekend.

I headed up to Citrusdal on Monday this week and just got back yesterday – not a damn soul near our cabins in the Wolfkop Nature Reserve or down by the river and the tented villages. Not a damn sound ‘cept for the tweeting birdbrains and the Jacuzzi.

Secondly I advise you take this week-time break at Wolfkop. It’s in Citrusdal in the amaZING Cederberg Mountains and situated in the Olifants River Valley. It’s only 175 km from Cape Town so, for Capetonians, you can have more holiday and less road rage.

We lay in hammocks, had bubbles tickle our bums and tums and canoed along the Olifants River. Eish! Pretty fluffs of white transformed in the blue sky before us while rows of birds sat on wire fences catching up on stoep-talk time.

Travelling during the week is also great ’cause you know (almost) everyone else in the poor world back home is in an office in front of a computer screen! Good riddance. You’ll also go back to work with the fattest smile on your newly sun-kissed face and miss out on the Monday Blues.

Check out www.wolfkopreserve.co.za for more about Wolfkop — from the hiking and fishing to the tented villages.
