Otherwise known as the ‘hoppiest’ place on Earth, a new hotel in Ohio will make every beer-drinker’s dreams come true. Travellers looking for a unique experience can now book a holiday inside a world-class brewery thanks to Brewdog, an independent craft brewer. The new hotel, aptly named Doghouse, opened the first crowd-funded craft beer hotel on August 27.
Located in Columbus, Ohio, the hotel offers guests a birds eye view of the brewers hard at work, from inside their rooms. The highlight of the 32-room accommodation is a beer tap and a built-in shower beer fridge in each room. There are also four dog-friendly suites to accommodate your best friend.
An on-site 6000-square-foot interactive beer museum teaches visitors everything about craft beer, from the history to the brewing process and the ingredients.
BrewDog co-founder, James Watt, said for many beer fans the idea of a beer hotel was just a pipe dream.
“A beer utopia was never thought possible. Until now. Thanks to the backing of our global community of beer evangelists, we’ve been hard at work to make that dream a reality. From welcome pints of Punk IPA and malt massages to brewery views and shower beers, this will be the world’s first and only fully-immersive craft beer experience from check in to check out. The DogHouse is our gift to the passionate and dedicated army of beer fans that have supported us every step of the way. We are nothing without our community and this hotel celebrates that,” Watt said.
Plans for the DogHouse were first announced in March 2017 – a crowdfunding campaign was set up with the aim of raising $75,000 (R1-million) over the period of a month. Surprisingly, they raised $160k (R2.3-million) in less than one week. BrewDog ended up securing over $300k (R4.3-million), which was quadruple what they expected. To show their gratitude to the backers, they were given preference to book a stay at the hotel. More than 500 nights have been booked since the pre-booking opened.
Features of the DogHouse begin at the door:
- The front desk has been replaced with a lobby bartender who check guests in while they enjoy a complimentary beer
- There are 32 guest rooms, including a 645-square-foot Brewmaster suite and a 460-square-foot Punk suite
- Four of the rooms are dog-friendly with easy access to the hotel’s dog park
- Each room features a fully stocked beer fridge accompanied by an en-suite bathroom with a built-in shower beer fridge
- All rooms have beer taps
- A state-of-the-art sour beer facility will open in late 2018
