The new 24.1 megapixel Nikon D7100 is  a camera dying to get caught up in the thick of the action. Weighing in at 675g it’s lightweight and compact with a durable weather-resistant body that seems perfect for the quick getaway. Grab it and go!

Straight from the Nikon House mouth, Romi Jacobs, Chief Operating Officer for Nikon South Africa, said:

“If you shoot landscapes, nature or wildlife images, or if you’re a keen traveller, then the new Nikon D7100 is designed for you. It offers a powerful set of features expanding the horizons of our DX format. This is all housed in a durable weather-resistant body, so dedicated photographers can now enjoy extraordinary performance in a portable camera they can take anywhere.”

The Nikon D7100 is quite a serious upgrade from its younger sibling, the Nikon D7000 as it houses a completely new sensor resulting in a much higher resolution. In conjunction with this it also offers an upgraded professional Auto Focus (AF) system now with 51 points covering a much wider frame as opposed to the 39 points in the previous model.

This powerful 24.1 megapixel, DX-format camera does not use an optical low pass filter which means the sensor can make the most of its megapixels so images should be sharper and captured in ultra-high definition. This Nikon model also uses an EXPEED 3 image processor that offers high-speed operation, vibrant colour reproduction and enhanced noise reduction. Speaking of noise, the NIkon D7100 also has a high ISO sensitivity of 100-6400 and you can max it out to 25600 if you feel the need.

Back to the body, the Nikon D7100 is described as rugged and robust with a magnesium alloy top and rear covers. As a result it has superior dust, drop and weather resistance making it the perfect outdoor camera companion. The camera also includes two memory card slots so you don’t have to fret about running out of gigs.

Like other cameras in its class, it also shoots HD movie, but with increased focusing capabilities and built in stereo microphone.

The D7100 package also includes easy image sharing with wireless connectivity that’s compatible with Apple and Adroid devices so you can now share your best shots with your friends or photo community in real time, wherever you choose to take it. The wireless connectivity also allows for remote shooting. You can operate the D7100 from afar without disturbing your subjects, whether man or meerkat, and operate remote shutter release and more complex camera set-ups, which can be pre-programmed too.

The camera alone costs R15 999 or a body and 18 – 105mm VR lens kit costs R19 999.
