This self-vulcanising tape is magic.

Fox and Sons are the suppliers of a self-vulcanising tape called Stretch & Seal that I reckon could be the difference between a great road trip with a small hiccup and a total disaster.

Bradley from Fox and Sons gives us the low-down on the tape’s properties and then towards the end demonstrates how to make yourself an o-ring in an emergency. There’s heaps more information here.

Uses for Stretch&Seal tape

• Ideal for protection and insulation. Manufactured from a specially formulated self sealing silicone rubber compound.
• Self bonding/non-adhesive characteristic that fuses to itself leaving no mastic residue if removed.
• Capable of sealing  pressures up to 700 PSI (49 bars)
• Capable of resisting temperatures of -53°C to +260°C and can be applied in extreme temperature applications.
• 300% elongation, stretches and forms virtually any odd shape, and will not crack or unravel during expansion or contraction.
• Salt water resistant and can be applied underwater.
• Dielectric strength of up to 400 VPM, making it an excellent insulator.
