It’s nearing the end of the month which means you are probably a little low on cash. However, our good friend keeps telling us, ‘Life is too short to drink bad wine‘, so it seems that we have a dilemma! Being an inherent solution-finder and fixer, and because the only thing worse than bad wine is no wine, I have come up with a plan: to find great wines under R80.
Here are my picks for best value wines:
Table Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011 – R29.99
Grassy nose, crisp and rounded finish.
Table Bay Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 – R32.99
Spicy mocha, oak flavours and solid vanilla finish.
Table Bay MCC – Method Cap Classique – R54.99
It stands up against many SA MCC’s, try it – you won’t be sorry.
Secret Cellar Sauvignon Blanc (Sel Nr 527) 2011 – R25.99
Fresh long flavours, good balance, almost creamy.
Secret Cellar Shiraz Reserve (sel Nr 503) 2007 – R29.99
Delicious cherries and spice, well rounded (I loved it).
And for the poor snob, the imports also offer great value and taste:
Posh choice
Bonnaire Brut Champagne – R169.00 (for 1.5l)
Elegant yet robust.
Fun option
Don Simon Sangria 1.5 litres – R39.99.
Refreshing Mediterranean style. For extra fun add a touch of MCC or tonic.
All these wines are available at Ultra Liquors.
