Beef trinchado potjie recipe
This beef trinchado potjie is one of my favourite Portuguese meals on the fire!
How to make beef trinchado potjie
Serves 6 to 8
Beef trinchado ingredients
- 2 kg steak cubes
- 2 tots soy sauce
- 2 tots olive oil
- 2 tots butter
- 2 onions, chopped
- 10 garlic cloves, crushed or chopped
- ½ tot cayenne pepper
- 3 bay leaves
- 2 cups beef stock
- ½ cup brandy
- ½ cup red wine
- ½ tot salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- A big handful of pitted black olives
- 250 ml tub cream
- Grated rind of a small lemon
Cooking instructions
Toss the steak in the soy sauce, then fry in the olive oil and butter. Once browned, add the onions, garlic, cayenne pepper and bay leaves. Fry for about 10 minutes until the onions are soft. Add the stock, brandy, wine, salt and pepper. Heat until it starts to simmer, then cover and cook for an hour until the meat is tender. Stir in the olives, cream and lemon rind. Bring to the boil and cook uncovered for 10 minutes until the sauce thickens. Let it stand for a few minutes before serving in bowls.
