Best airport food Posted on 17 April 2015 Tags:April 2015 In the April 2015 issue of Getaway magazine you’ll find our recommendations for airport restaurants worth seeking out. But if you’re a frequent flyer with lounge access, you’ll appreciate this advice from seasoned travellers and travel correspondents Debbie Pappyn and David De Vleeschauwer. The Etihad Airways Arabian buffet in Abu Dhabi is really good and they serve a mean curry (veg and non-veg) at all times of the day – even if you’re there at 2am, you can still grab a hearty bite. We also like the SAS lounge in Copenhagen. The buffet is not massive but it’s always very fresh with steaming homemade soup, a Scandinavian-style salad and dark rye bread to go with it. The John Pawson design at the Cathay Pacific lounge in Hong Kong Airport is great and the food is very good (and fresh) too. British Airways have also come up with a great concept in Toronto. With their red-eye flight to London, where people don’t tend to eat on the plane but sleep instead, they offer a very good lounge option before the flight. A chef cooks several different dishes to order, from wok to salads, light to substantial, so you can eat well before you fly and sleep right away once onboard. We were charmed by the Frankfurter sausages, authentic German Senf and big pints of Weissbier in the Lufthansa Senator’s Lounge in Frankfurt. Monocle votes the curry dish from JAL lounge in Tokyo as the best airport food ever. We’ve tried it and it is indeed a great curry – Japanese style of course!
