With Christmas less than a week away, you may be contemplating the ecological impact of your celebrations, especially if you still need a tree.

While there are many debates about real versus fake Christmas trees based on aesthetics or tradition, taking into account the environmental cost of this iconic festive feature is more than worth the consideration.
A real Christmas tree that has been chopped down has a significantly lower carbon footprint compared to artificial trees, but needs to be properly recycled by chipping or burning. If you choose an artificial Christmas tree, however, you would need to use it for about 10 years first for its environmental impact to be lower than that of real trees.
If you’re looking to go green this Christmas or in years to come, up-cycled, recycled and reused eco-friendly Christmas trees are a sustainable alternative to chopping down a living tree or buying an artificial one.
Here are a some creative ‘green’ Christmas tree ideas:
1. Potted Christmas trees
2. Trees made from recycled items
2. Trees on the wall
