The Baz Bus is becoming a firm favourite of mine…
…what with being able to shut my eyes on the loooong drive and having someone else responsible for the tyre-changing, should the need arise. You also get to meet some crazy-beautiful people from around the world (and, sure, some less affable types).
So for my second time, I hopped on the Baz, together with a chum from Cape Town, and headed for Port St Johns. We overnighted in PE at 99 Mile backpackers (the last bit of city comfort I’d see for a week) and finally arrived at Mthatha Shell Ultra to catch a shuttle to Port St Johns.
Flip! My eyes were well shut for most of the drive – not to catch 40 winks, but to avoid watching the damn Toyota Venture swinging around the terrifying bends through the rural Transkei at well I don’t know how many kms/h since the speedometer was broken, but fast enough for the tyres to shriek and goats to just miss a bloody death.
When our feet touched down on Jungle Monkey turf (a pumping backpackers in the coastal town of PSJ), a complimentary shot of Jagermeister was muchos appreciated. Thanks bartenders!
