If you know what Airwolf is, you can keep reading without feeling bad. If you don’t, you really missed out on the coolest (if not only) helicopter series ever.
You’re never going to get the thrilling Airwolf experience (the series ended in 1984 and the helicopter visited South Africa once a very, very long time ago), but you can get pretty close with a helicopter tour of the peninsula with Civair Adventure Helicopters.
See what it’s like to hover above the Atlantic Ocean, the Cape Town Stadium, Table Mountain and even Camps Bay. If you’re lucky enough to get the front seat, the pilot might let you help out. The back seat was just fine for me though, I’m not the I-love-flying type.
On the Atlantico flight you’ll fly over the stadium, Camps Bay, the Twelve Apostles and get a glimpse of Hout Bay and Chapman’s Peak, before returning to the Waterfront. The tour lasts 20 to 40 minutes and costs R800 a person.
If you’d prefer a cheaper option, there’s the Hopper Flight, which is just as exciting and gets you a trip over the stadium, Clifton’s beaches, with views of Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles.
Various other options including shark-cage diving, safaris, full peninsula tours and lunch and wine are available.
