Last week the red espresso team asked me to pick any location for them to make a red espresso on the spot for me. I’ll take any excuse for getting out of the office and onto the beach during the week, so I chose Camps Bay.
Nick, a barista from red espresso, met me on a beach towel under an umbrella on the middle of Camps Bay beach and proceeded to make me a red espresso in seconds using the mypressi TWIST – a portable espresso machine that’s just come on the market in South Africa. Nick explained that the TWIST uses the same amount of pressure as an espresso machine in a coffee shop, so it makes perfect espressos, even though it’s the size of a small hairdryer.
The TWIST is a hand-held espresso maker that uses 8 gram pressure cartridges (the ones used in whipped cream containers). Each cartridge makes four double shots or eight single shots of espresso. So, you load the TWIST with a cartridge, fill it up with coffee or red espresso powder, pour in some hot water and press the trigger. Within seconds, a perfect espresso pours out. It’s kind of like magic.
It was a little too hot on the beach for an espresso, so Nick also made me a deliciously refreshing drink of red espresso, pressed apple juice and ice. It’s going to be my drink of the summer.
The TWIST is perfect for campers and hikers who need their caffeine fix in the form of espresso and not a cup of weak Ricoffy.
mypressi TWIST retails for R1500 and you can buy it at www.redespresso.com. It’s the ultimate Christmas pressie for a coffee or red espresso addict!
