Harbour House’s winter special is now on: two courses for R140 and three course for R160. As it’s one of my favourite restaurants in Cape Town for seafood, Harbour House was next on my list of specials to try out.
There are three choices of starter: west coast mussels in white wine and cream, braised oxtail ravioli or a prawn cocktail. For mains, there’s pan-fried paprika calamari, which I can definitely recommend, pan roasted line fish – the catch of the day was yellowtail – served with a potato and rosemary tart or springbok shank with waterblommetjies and roasted butternut. Dessert options are almond creme brulee and dark chocolate terrine (rich, decadent and indulgently chocolatey).
Considering that a la carte main courses cost around R130, the special is a good deal, but it doesn’t beat the Myoga winter special – six course for R150. Having said that though, Harbour House’s food is consistently good, and there’s nothing better than its panoramic backdrop of Kalk Bay harbour and False Bay. If you haven’t been to Harbour House yet, now’s the time to go, and if you’re a regular your bill has just got cheaper.
The special’s on until September, and it’s available every day except for Sunday lunch.
