Stay on a luxurious shipwreck in Namibia

Spending the night in a shipwreck may sound like something out of the movie Life of Pi, but Namibia’s newest luxury lodge offering on the Skeleton Coast is exactly the opposite. The Shipwreck Lodge is between the Hoarusib and Hoanib Rivers in the Skeleton Coast National Park.

Nina Maritz Architecture designed the structures with the aim to imitate fallen ships that have tipped onto their side. The lodge has views of the desert facing the coast where a large number of real, rusted ships still remain. The lodge offers eight twins and double solar powered en-suite bedrooms and two family cabins located on the sand dunes.

Each cabin is made from wooden pine with prefabricated walls to withstand any harsh coastal conditions. The interior consists of an en-suite bathroom with a large windows with majestic views of the sea and the sunset. A lounge and restaurant is available on site for guests. The Skeleton Coast National Park is also home to various animal species including brown hyenas, desert lions, elephants and giraffe.
