People may gush over hotel balconies, swimming pools, spectacular artwork and floor-to-ceiling windows, but I head straight to the bathrooms. There’s something magical about iconic city views, futuristic skyscrapers or rolling plains dotted with game from the vantage point of a tub, with a glass of bubbly in hand. Obviously.
Here are eight glorious bathtubs in Southern Africa, with an Instagram-worthy view.
1. Sabi Sabi Selati Camp, South Africa
Sabi Sabi Selati Camp is one of the oldest private game reserves in the country, near the Kruger National Park. Each room comes has an old-world feel and a full bathroom en-suite. In addition to the outdoor bathtub, there’s a private outdoor shower under the indigenous trees.

2. Tongabezi Lodge, Zambia
The front of the Tree House in Tongabezi Lodge is completely open and set overlooking the Zambezi River in Zambia. Victoria Falls is also not too far from the lodge.

3. Londolozi Game Reserve, South Africa
Londolozi Game Reserve is situated on the Sand River within the Sabi Sands Game Reserve that forms part of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The bathtubs in the Private Granite Suites allow you to soak overlooking the river and you may be rewarded with the site of a herd of elephants coming to drink.

4. Okahirongo Elephant Lodge, Namibia
The eco-friendly Okahirongo Elephant Lodge set on the Kunene River in Namibia, offers has private rooms with verandas that look out over the vast expanse of nature all around. Although situated indoors the bathtubs have an equally immpresive view over the landscape and windows that can be stacked on either side of the frame letting all of nature in. Both the lodges and river camps here are run by solar energy.

5. Zvakanaka Farm, South Africa
Limpopo has many precious gems and Zvakanaka Farm in Louis Trichardt is one of them. This self-catering family accommodation offers views of the mountains and trees. The Madala Cottage also has an outdoor bath, set in a soothingly green garden environment.

6. Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge, South Africa
The claw-foot bathtub in the honeymoon suite of Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge is a spot where you can expect to enjoy almost perfect stillness. You may also be fortunat enough to spy ellies while you enjoy a soak. The Game Lodge is situated in 3,5 hours from Joburg, in the North West province.

7. Sanctuary Baines Camp, Botswana
Built above the Boro River in Botswana, Sanctuary Baines Camp is eco-friendly and is one of two camps in the area that offers the opportunity to walk with elephants. On an interesting note, the main structure of the camp was built using tin cans that locals from Maun had collected in exchange for payment.

8. Babylonstoren, South Africa
The Babylonstoren Hotel Farm in Stellenbosch has luxurious rooms and bathrooms with delightful views. The Farmhouse suite bedrooms also have access to the outdoor pool.
