Pictures: West Coast flowers in full bloom Posted by Nidha Narrandes on 13 September 2018 Every year, for two months only, the West Coast of South Africa bursts into colour to welcome Spring. There is a small window of time, between August and September, when the Namaqualand daisies and other flora put on a glamorous show. If there is ever a time to visit this coastline, now is that time. Don’t be alarmed if you see cars parked along the side of the road, chances are the passengers are snapping pictures in the fields. We suggest making a weekend of it. There are tons of accommodation throughout the West Coast National Park, and surrounding areas, which vary in price. SANParks encourages visits between August and September to see the flourishing greenery and flora bloom along the Western Coast. Cape Nature Botanist, Rupert Koopman says: “Spring might seem early this year but this is also to do with several poor winters in a row up the west coast especially and what we have had so far is a return to average rainfall – it shows how easily we forget natural cycles and don’t account for their inherent variability.” You can contact the Weskus Flower Hotline 063 724 6203 or the Namakwaland Flower Line at 072 760 6019 for more information.
