The 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee sports a modern take on the iconic grill, but the oldest SUV brand remains loyal to its great off-road legacy – with a luxury spin.
Eight-speed automatic transmission, leather seats and a 8,7-inch touch screen infotainment system are standard across the Jeep Cherokee range.
The new infotainment system
Accompanied by over 60 safety features – including forward collision warning with crash mitigation, ESC, electronic rollover mitigation, ABS with off-road calibration, traction control and seven airbags – the Cherokee it a great family travel car.
The 3,6 and 5,7 litre engines offer incredible power with smooth and quiet gear changes, so overtaking in this car is a dream. The Jeep grill has been given a facelift with square lights instead of the familiar rounded ones and the back of the car looked very similar to the Toyota Fortuner. It’s a risky update, but accompanied by the beautiful leather and wood interiors, it works.
Other updates include new bi-xenon headlamps (HID bi-xenon for the SRT) with LED daytime running lights, new wheel designs, new three-spoke steering wheel, rear parking camera, cruise control and Jeep’s Selec-Speed Control with hill-ascent control and hill-descent control.

The modernized off-road capabilities remain top notch, if a little too easy (the car does everything for you thanks to pre-programmed drive settings) with a terrain mode selector that also adjusts suspension accordingly for better ground clearance.
The power, comfort, ease-of-drive and nifty features make for a competitive SUV package and you’ll feel like a million bucks behind the wheel.
The 3,6l base model costs R584 000 and a top-of-the-range sports model SRT costs R849 990.
