New app – ParkSpotter Africa: making the most of national parks

Posted by Melanie van Zyl on 8 July 2013

New in the app store, download Mapstudio’s ParkSpotter Africa app before heading to your favourite national park.

There are plenty of wildlife apps out there, but this one has thoughtful features which benefit the user and can be used without internet connection. I had the pleasure of testing the ParkSpotter app in Pafuri, the northern part of the Kruger National Park and found it quite brilliant.

Get the lowdown from this short video.

I snapped pics of the elephant and nyala I’d seen, ticked them off my check list, logged the exact spot I’d seen them and used the maps to explore the park’s secondary roads. Over lunch in Punda Maria, I then reviewed the animals and birds I’d seen while reading up some interesting info on said species. I was surprised to see it worked without any internet in the deep bush and shared my memories when I got home. All in all, it’s pretty cool.
