While potjiekos has been around since the Voortrekkers the potjie gadgets are anything but old-fashioned. The sleek bowl-like design of the Cadac potjie cooker is best for a family-sized potjie (it fits no. 2 and no. 3 sized three-legged, cast-iron pots) and works incredibly well because the cooker is built into the bowl distributing the heat evenly.

Livelekker’s potjiekos percolator will intrigue any potjiekos chef. It creates a drip-circulation system and the wide base prevents the stew from burning at the bottom while keeping meat succulent throughout without having to stir it. It may seem gimmicky, but it’s a clever thingamajig to add to your cooking kit.

It’s made of lightweight metal and floats about in the sauce to begin with, but once you chuck in some potatoes and meat it’s weighed down nicely.
